Hi, Ruth! Yes, it really is a good thing to encourage hedgies in the garden, for they gobble lots and lots of pests like slugs and snails. We have thrushes too who use the piles of logs and stones I have scattered around the garden as their anvil.
Hello, Sheila, and welcome. That catchy little song about the hedgehog was one I taught my little nursery children each year. They loved it so much that, one year at the end of term, they bought me a stepping-stone for my garden with a hedgehog on it and that now starts off the hedgehog walk...another year they gave me a little hedgehog made of dough, which now sits on a little table in my lounge. I have such happy reminders, both in my garden and in my home, of all the little children I taught.
In 1990, as we were driving through a little village, I noticed a quaint old barn with a corrugated roof, and a newly-built house adjacent to it. They were standing on a large plot of land, full of pernicious weeds - a corner of a farmer's field, in fact. Then we saw the "For Sale" sign. Four months later we moved in and decided to create a garden for wildlife.

very envious...what a wonderful slug eating friend you have there. If he has any distant cousins who like free Bed and Board please point them my way.

Very nice photos. I have never seen a real one like this so I am always interested.
Thanks for visiting my blog today.
Hello again, Abe! They are charming little creatures who guzzle pests, so great to have in the garden.
My sister's favourite animal. We don't get them here, but she has a lovely collection of ceramic ones.
They are lovely little helpers in the garden.

Awww! I wish we had hedgehogs in the US. They are adorable! I love those photos! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you once again, Dawn. I wish you had them too, for they earn their keep by gobbling all the slugs and snails.
